Nikon Speedlight SB-910

I've just purchased a Nikon Speedlight SB-910 from Amazon on Monday and it's in the office morning waiting for me to receive. Thank God I've got it for a pretty good deal from Amazon as I really needed a flashgun.

Well I believe there're lots of professional reviews on this flashgun available for you to Google so what I'm going to share with you are some pictures that I've taken within half an hour after I decided to do something out of it, and some other stuffs available in my room.

Simple set up was done roughly in like 3minutes, as I had nothing but some black t-shirts within my sight.

Water droplets, I've actually done this two years ago with my SB-900 (Link)

Those textures of my T-shirt were pretty obvious weren't they, hahaha..

As for this one I thought it was kinda accident to get the splashing-water or whatever effect, they're most probably those dust particles on my filter and lens, maybe I didn't clean it thoroughly enough.

Happy New Year 2012 to all of you who read my blog. This would be my first entry of the year :)

Brought my camera out just now I was expecting to see a frozen up Brayford Pool as last night was -3'c, and apparently it didn't so I decided to take a panaroma shot of Brayford Pool since I've already brought my camera (was actually going to the library to finish my assignment).

Recently I've just downloaded an application from Mac Apps Store called the "HDR Studio". It's pretty convenient for people to merge their shots into HDR and the results look just fine. The second pictures (as you can see) was a processed picture using HDR Studio, I also rise up a lil bit in the colour temperature as an emphasis to the surreal feeling of this picture, guess this app has made a pretty dramatic picture, though I'd still prefer pictures to have their original look as possible.

P/S: I've just received an interesting message, my sister's going into labour now (as at 15th January 2012 23.07pm). I'm gonna be an uncle!

Halo UK!

Finally guys, I'm in the UK now! Well it's been few days since I reached here, in Lincoln. I love its environment, buildings and also, the people. It's quite a small city as compare to other city like London and Manchester, having said that it basically has everything you need.

And the cathedral, how amazing it is! I really really love it. I've never been there yet, well almost. I visited the city centre few days back and when I was about to reach the cathedral it started to rain so I've to cancel my visit. Perhaps I'll go there with some other new friends I met these few days. Oh ya, have I told you about my friends? Well my neighbours are all asians, which actually is a little bit disappointing, I was expecting some home or europeans flatmate. But I believe there must be reasons why did the management sort of separate us, we'll see.. So far I've met people from China, Hongkong, Korea, France, and German, cool group of people indeed.

Last but not least, God bless me in UK!

DIY Telescope (100th Entry!)

Ya, spend some money and you can assemble a telescope by yourself! It's actually some "toy" related to science called "Otona no Kagaku"(大人的科學, translated as Science for Adults) (Click to enter its website, click english for english) that comes with a mook (magazine book). It sort of tells you how things work while you're assembling it.

I've bought a DIY camera mook before (I blogged about it! Check it out!) and telescope is my second Otona no Kagaku toy. I bought it at Kinokuniya KLCC when I revisit KL to arrange my visa thingy. In fact, I don't like calling them toys as they really work (including the camera), but they really look like one and I was actually having fun assembling those parts so, ya it's basically a "real toy". Plus, it only comes in Japanese version (I'm not sure if it has English version), thank God there're Kanji (chinese character) in Japanese, I managed to understand roughly what it says!

Today, according to the Lunar Calendar, is mid-autumn festival (aka mooncake festival) and every year during mid-autmn festival there'll be a beautiful full moon. It has never been miscalculated, unless the cloud at night is really thick. Can't wait to see the moon through my telescope!

p/s: Oh Yeah! Just realised it's my 100th entry!

As I mentioned in previous entries, I was gonna finish my diploma on end of July. Guys, I'm finally graduated! And had I mentioned that my brother was going to KL and help me to move my stuffs back to Sabah too? Well, he did and as you can see in my blog, we've visited Malacca, Putrajaya and I-city.

Not the point of the story. The point is, when we're about to fly back to Sabah, I lost my D90 and together with some other gadgets including my 50mm f1.4 lens, SB-900 flash and the one killing me, my external hard disk! I didn't even have a backup of all my works and they're gone! I will never forgive myself for losing such precious stuffs. They may not be very valuable but all of them are actually gifts from my sisters and brothers, how careless am I?

Fortunately, my brother-in-law does have a back up camera, and hence my previous posts like "Irresistible Taipei".

Well guys, FYI, I'll be flying to the UK most probably on this coming 17th of September (still waiting for my visa) to further my study in Bachelor Degree of Business and Management. My brother actually planned to upgrade my camera body for me since I'm going so far. So just yesterday, he, my sister and brother-in-law as well as my mum pooled out some money and bought me a Nikon D700 and Nikkor 28-300 f3.5/5.6. It's a major upgrade for me as it's an FX format camera and lens! Thanks a lot to my brother, sister, brother in law and mum! Not to forget my second sister, who just gave me her iphone4 once she upgraded hers to iphone4 white! Those are like a farewell gift for me as I'm planning to come back to Malaysia only when I'm done with my Bachelor Degree.

The Nikkor 28-300 f3.5/f5.6 is such an amazing lens, and indeed exceeded my expectation! D700 is pretty awesome with its noise control too focusing speed.

Day Trip to Malacca and I-city

As promised, guys! All pictures are taken just now in Malacca and I-City Shah Alam, all in a day, how tiring was that! Was my fourth time visit to Malacca and third time visit to I-city, both were awesome places, especially Malacca. How I love this historical city!

First of all, I'm finally finished with my final exam! I mean final final, they're my final two subjects of the course! (Guys, I need your prayers for my graduation!!). As I mentioned in earlier post, my brother is coming here to help me to move my stuffs back to Sabah.

Well, he pretty much did, with one of my cousin. Just went back from a photoshooting session with him from Putrajaya.. You may realised I have plenty of posts about Putrajaya in my blog, if you have read all of them. Well, it is simply a beautiful and awesome place for photo shooting so, why not?

BTW, I'll be going to Malacca tomorrow so, blog updates is coming right up! Stay tuned! :)

Sunflower Choir on National

This is the third consecutive times my choir's been placed on the top 3 in national choir competition, since year 2008 only this time, thing was a little bit different.

Anyway I was so happy to meet the choir in KL especially my teacher and the juniors, they were so focus, energetic and creative! It reminded me of my time in the choir, we were like a little family back then. Everyday when I woke up, choir is the very first thing came out from my mind and Saturday had become my favourite day, it's the weekly club meeting!

P/S: I didn't get to take their photos as I was assigned to check out the sound system control while they're performing.

Random entry: Sunflower Choir Annual Concert (Special Edition!)

So guys, as you all know I'd been singing in my school choir back in my secondary school. It was the happiest time I've ever had during my school time. Fortunately, I get to join the school alumni choir after I left the school.

Back in year 2005 when I was the president of the choir, we flew over to Taiwan and visited some of the famous, award-winning school choir there. Boy the musical culture there is so much stronger, happening and active than what we have in Malaysia. I thought we were hardworking enough to have weekly practices ( twice a week) throughout the year but they actually take initiative to practice every single day. I wasn't so surprise when they told us so after seeing their performance, which was simply mind blowing. We happened to have one concert there with one of the high school choir that we visited in their school's hall.

This coming August, the same choir that we had concert with is coming all the way from Taipei to Sabah. They will be joining us in our annual concert, making this concert a crossover concert! For the first time I will be joining the alumni choir, in a male singers group form. Yes, there will be no alumni choir this year, but a singers group!

It's been a hard time for me as I am still studying in KL for time being and I only get chances to practice with the group when I'm in Sabah for semester breaks. All together the Alumni Singers Group will be performing 5 songs and to be frank those songs aren't easy to sing. One of them is Blackbird and we'll be singing original arrangement from my favourite singers group, the King's Singers. It is suppose to be exciting but I am still so unprepared for the performance as I've been so busy with assignments and revisions lately, which give me no time to practice! I am so gonna spend nights and days to practice all of them after I finish the final!

Anyway, I spent sometime to make an unofficial poster for the concert, guess I'm just too excited! Hahaha.. FYI, my choir's name is Sunflower Choir (since 1985, named by one of the founders, which is also the present instructor's sister) and theirs is High Voltage Choir. Both are cool names for choirs aren't they?

I've been searching for sites to download chinese fonts for years, and I don't mean the one pre-installed in your computer, but the decorative ones. Just out of the blue, I googled "chinese font for mac free download"(both in english and chinese), thousands of links came out just as usual. You'll probably ask "why does it takes you years to find it then?" Well, it's simply because most of them are just useless, I mean all the download link aren't downloadable, or you know, corrupted so I sorta gave up on searching for it.

Fortunately, I happened to find one site providing links that enable you to download all the fonts directly and just FYI, this particular website is in Chinese (and why in the world am I writing in English??).

Random post: Thoughts to share on this early June

First of all thank God for the great time I've had in KL. Well practically I've spent most of the time in Sunway, awesome 2 and a half years and before that I spent half a year in Setapak (KL) back in 2008.

For time being I'm almost done with my course, Diploma in Business Administration in Sunway University (former Sunway Uni. College), which will be ending on this coming July (please pray hard for me to pass the final two subjects, people!)

Second of all, I can't wait to go back to my beloved hometown, Kota Belud Sabah! You don't know how many things I've missed out these years (both awesome and awful). Though I do go back to Sabah quite often, like once in two months time, it just suck when it comes to the time where I've to pack and go to the airport, leaving Sabah.

Now that I'll be going back soon, all of my stuffs are quite prepared and in fact most of them (BUNCH of cd's, dvd's and my super heavy camera gadgets) had already been sent back to Sabah on May during the mid-sem break. The only thing left now are those books and clothes, well, mostly books. I've been reading and buying bunch of books recently, I think it's a tremendous improvement for me (I hated books a lot back then, especially english books). I think I look super awesome when I read, in whatever pose possible. Standing, lying on beds, sitting on chair with my feet on the table, sitting on the toilet bowl (this is the awesomest) etc etc... hahahaha..

Not the point of the story, the thing that really gave me headache was how troublesome can they be when I move back to Sabah.. Fortunately my brother suggested to help me to move out all those stuff, which mean he'll be coming to Sunway and help me out (or was I the one suggesting? whatever la..). Now I don't have to worry about it and can buy more books and photography magazines to stuff the shelf in my room back in Sabah. I'm kidding, books are expensive in Malaysia!

I've been typing so much haven't I? Now time to share.. err.. one photo of my hometown Kota Belud. The first shop of the lot used to be my childhood paradise, it's my father's shop. It's been supporting me until I got here, and soon to be.... better not saying it now.. Thanks papa and mama! :)

Random entry: Let's Do Sketching on Your iPad!

Have I told you guys I actually enjoy drawing? Ever since I was a kid, I've been drawing lots of stuffs, anywhere (recalling my childhood house's wall). Having said that, I'm not that kind of experts in drawing, in fact, I suck at it.

Well since I've got my iPad, I found the most amazing application I've ever purchased from the apps store and hack yeah, it's the sketching application! There're plenty of them and some of them are really "professional". They're.. well, a little bit too sophisticated for me I mean, why make it such a headache, drawing is suppose to be fun isn't it?

This is one of the professional apps, check out how amazing can it be, if you're good in drawing this is gonna be the best investment you've ever done to your iPad's apps! >check it out!<

I can't really remember the app's name and I'm a lil bit too lazy to go back to my room and check it out since I'm now in the study room. Anyway, here're some of my "masterpiece" (done in few days time).

Silly Faces at the National Zoo

Followed the Social Society (the one doing volunteer jobs, I guess.) of my university today to the national zoo (Zoo Negara). I'm honoured to be their photographer and being the only photographer, my job was to walk around the zoo and looked for the society members and take their photos.

Why did I walk around? 'Cause the freaking zoo management has separated the members into 10 different groups and has assigned them different job in different places/departments.

As I didn't know where had all the groups gone and I had to take photos of them doing all the cleaning and feeding jobs, I had walk around the zoo for 3 times, and each round took me an hour (recalling how big is the zoo)! I didn't manage to find all of them, though.

Anyway as I walked around the zoo, I'd taken some close up pictures of several animals (what a chance, hahahaha.. ). Funny thing when I focused on each of their faces they gave me lots of funny expression and hence I've titled this entry as "Silly Faces..." (Not all of them, though)

Some random photo before the faces, guess my cheap 70-300mm isn't as useless as I thought after all. In fact, all of the pictures here are taken using this lens.

After thousands of attempts, my panning bird shots. Pretty satisfied for a shot like this out of lens with extremely slow focusing speeds. Well it explains why did I take more than 20minutes just to take this shot

虽说是厦门一日游，也不过是到了鼓浪屿一个地方而已。不过那里实在是太美了，一整天下来才绕完正座岛～

前一天晚上从深圳搭了十个小时的火车，早上六点多总算到了龙岩！

下火车之前打开行李把已真空包装好的外套拿出来穿好。早上的龙岩之冷的！

走出火车站许多熟悉的面孔早已在那里等我们了，有表姐夫、表哥、三叔、阿姨等等看到我们就急着帮我们拿行李，多不好意思。

看着家乡不间断的发展，深感骄傲！

回乡第一站，当然就是公公老家。叔公早已在那里等着我们了，看叔公也是这次回龙岩最主要的原因。他老人家看到我们非常高兴，我踏进老家也特别兴奋，顿时都忘了自己还没梳洗的那股不舒服。

公公在世的时候都会寄这里的生活照过去，他们都把它框起来珍藏！

在老家吃了早餐，是大叔做的最出名的家乡菜清汤米粉，我这辈子恐怕再也吃不到比这个更好吃的清汤米粉了。。。

吃了早饭后离开叔公家，到附近的宾馆梳洗一番就去龙岩有名的龙崆洞看看

Visited I-city again yesterday, I remember my last visit there was on February 2011.

This time I've decided to do some close-up photography on the lights there since I've taken pretty much of its landscape view last year.

A little tip if you're planning to go there, try to reach there around 5 or 6pm to enjoy the beautiful sunset in I-City!

DIY lomo camera

Out of curiosity I bought my very first lomo camera, Diana Mini F+ last year to check out how does it work and also, what is so special about it. Oh how I love the effect! I ended up bought another 2 lomo camera, which are both DIY camera. They're attached with a photography magazines, it sorta tell you about how light is transformed to images when it touches film.

My Lomo camera collections. Apparently the middle one is my Diana Mini F+, left one is my first DIY camera and the right one, quite cute huh? It's a pinhole camera, just finished the outer part of it last night and will continue the inner part ASAP! Can't wait to see how images turn out to be :)

Jenjarom FGS Dong Zen 佛广山东禅寺

As I know about Dong Zen, there are beautiful decorated lanterns during Chinese New Year so I decided to visit it two days before Chap Goh Meh (the last day of CNY).

In fact, the reason was quite obvious, it's gonna be packed on tomorrow!

Thank God for the newly bought Android phone, it does have a built in GPS! I mean a real GPS, unlike the one in my previous iphone which always brings me nowhere, well it did take my friends extra U-turns to get to somewhere. It took around 1 hour plus to get there as Selangor area rained heavily halfway during our journey, thank God again for the safe journey :)

Turns out the Zen itself is quite beautiful already.

(although it's still under my expectation... darn, I was tricked by those photographers' pictures online!)

Don't get influenced by me anyway, it is really worth to pay a visit there.)

Thought of doing some light painting on those lights and lanterns hung on the trees, turns out it was quite beautiful! :)

Recently, people around me are crazy about "DSLR", everybody wants a "DSLR".

They say it's impossible to take a picture using a dc, come out as good quality as a "DSLR" do.

I say: "why not?"

Despite all those features and gadgets that make a SLR much more expensive,

in my point of view a compact digital camera is designed to make your life easier, and even more

creative!

I've noticed that many people actually own a compact DC but never they study what are the features in

their camera. Having one in your hand? Let's check out if your tiny little compact DC can do these!

Macro/Digital Macro

I believe this feature is available for most of the digital cameras nowadays,

start bokeh around with your digital camera today! :)

Color Accent

This is quite a special and an interesting feature,

It keeps only selected color and the others are changed to black and white :)

not sure if it is available in some other brand but it is in my Canon Ixus 990s

Zoom Blur (above)

Zoom blur is another effect where it

zoom out during the exposure to create

a motion blur effect.

Not only those that I mentioned above, there're still a lot more interesting features

you may find in a compact digital camera, like firework and long exposures which

allow you to take creative shots with lights,

such as fireworks and also things like pika-pika which I myself have never tried before!

However all you need for low light and long exposures photography is a tripod,

which may cost you couple of hundreds for a good quality of tripod.

There are still cheap, descent quality tripods in the market for less than RM100 though.
